Moving Your Dish Around
In this picture, the part hanging out behind the dish at a 45 degree angle is a motor attached to a pole (called an actuator). This pole moves in and out and turns the dish on a pre-determined arc. This means that so long as you have clear line of sight to the satellites you can pick up any satellite in our part of the world.
This actuator is connected to another little box that sits on top of your satellite receiver. It's this box that stores the positions of the satellites and instructs the motor to move the satellite dish to the required position. Once you've set the angles, the whole process happens automatically from then on.
All you need to do is connect one wire to the LNB on the satellite dish and another group of wires to the actuator (the thing with the motor that moves the dish).
Then it's a simple process of memorising the satellite positions, and away you go.
