My Foxtel Died - What Can I Watch?
First of all, the Foxtel service you had was illegal. We won't sell you a new card to make it work again. If you want to make it work, call Foxtel 131 999 and get a subscription.
However, it's not the end of the world if you don't want to pay for satellite tv. You can simply reposition the satellite dish to receive channels from a different satellite.
What you need to do is move your dish a little to the left (if you're standing behind it) and tilt it up a little bit and you will get Optus B3. More specifically, you will need to aim it almost exactly north, and at an angle of about 45 degrees. This will vary depending on where you are in Australia. This satellite will give you a great collection of free international and Australian channels.
If you're looking for all Australian channels, then try finding Optus B1 which at the moment sends out ABC and SBS for all over Australia. It's great if you miss a program, as you can watch it in a different time zone! To find this satellite, you'll need to move your dish to the right a a little, and also point it down so that the angle is about 21 degrees to horizontal.
You can also try your luck on NSS6 - which will give you a few interesting Russian and Middle Eastern channels from abroad. This is very close to the horizon though, so you may find there are buildings in the way. Try to move them, and if unsuccessful try mounting your dish on a taller pole. You can also try a bigger dish, as this is more likely to get some signal, and also makes it easier to find the satellite.
It's easy to find a satellite to receive from (except NSS6 - which can be tricky), it just takes a few minutes and it really helps if you have one of these little gadgets.
